Cockpit Country Underground Adventure

Situated on the fringes of the Queen of Spain Valley and adjoining the Martha Brae watershed lies the quiet rural farming community of Bunker’s Hill. A 40 minute drive from Montego Bay, the Cockpit Country Underground Adventure will take you through Cockpit Country’s unique natural features and geology while providing a glimpse into traditional farming practices that have developed in tandem with the area’s natural features. The trail to the cave meanders along the banks of the Roaring River offering the aura of tranquility as you warm up for the climb to the mouth of the cave. The hike is a medium impact tour which involves a climb up a 45 degree slope to the cave entrance. Once inside the cave huge chamber rooms glow in beams of light as its spectacular stalactites sparkle like diamonds. A large bat population has made one of the cave’s chamber rooms home. Along the hike professionally trained tour guides explain how the community and its name is related to the American Revolutionary War and discuss the local culture and folklore of the area. After the tour visitors will experience local Jamaican cuisine at the Bunker’s Hill Bar & Grill while taking in the community’s culture over a cold Red Stripe.
