OUR STORY

Founding

The Southern Trelawny Environmental Agency (STEA), founded in 1996, works to conserve the Cockpit Country, one of Jamaica’s most unique and ecologically important regions.

Core Mandate

We aim to protect this vital ecosystem from threats like bauxite mining while creating sustainable economic opportunities for Cockpit Country communities.

Key Initiatives

STEA's programs in eco-tourism, conservation awareness, environmental education, and community capacity building gives residents tools to sustainably use the natural heritage of Cockpit Country

Long-Term Vision

Our focus on environmental advocacy and long-term stability, makes us committed to a healthier, more sustainable future for people and nature alike.

“A globally unique karst ecosystem and vital aquifer, home to rare species and the water that communities depend on. Protecting the Cockpit Country protects Jamaica’s future.”

Hugh Dixon
