Strengthening Eco-Tourism in Cockpit Country
This project continues the efforts initiated under CEPF113661 to enhance the eco- and community-based tourism program by promoting responsible exploration of the Cockpit Country landscape. The program aims to educate visitors about the area's unique ecology and biodiversity while ensuring that community residents benefit financially from hosting guests.
Key Objectives:
1. Community Engagement: Enhance local awareness of biodiversity and foster community participation in eco-tourism to generate sustainable income.
2. Sustainable Livelihoods: Identify alternative income-generating ventures in Unity, Spring Gardens, and Broadleaf that align with environmental conservation.
3. Environmental Stewardship: Establish a Community of Environmental Stewards to assess and develop market-ready attractions in targeted communities.

4. Marketing Expansion: Promote tour packages for Sawyers and Bunkers Hill through STEA’s digital platforms based on prior assessments.
5. Strengthening Institutional Capacity: Update financial audits for STEA, ensuring compliance and improving access to additional funding sources.
This initiative will empower communities to protect their natural resources while enhancing their economic well-being. By gathering additional insights through focus group discussions and increasing information dissemination methods, such as murals and pamphlets, the project aims to foster a deeper connection between residents and their environment.
