The Jamaica Conservation Partners (JCP)

Building Capacity of Cockpit Country Communities for Sustainable Environmental Conservation

Launched:
The aim of this project is to improve the capacity of key communities in the Cockpit Country buffer zone to contribute to the conservation of this important landscape in Jamaica. To achieve this objective, the main goals of the project will be:

1. To develop a working core of aware environmentalists and environmental protection CSOs in three communities within the Cockpit Country landscape to advance environmental awareness and advocacy.

2. Enable meaningful environmental protection and advocacy in three target communities that protect the key features of the Cockpit Country landscape.

3. To undertake a programme of capacity building for fledgling CSOs in three target communities that improves their individual and institutional capacity for environmental conservation.

4. To develop a document outlining the intervention strategy, the critical information disseminated, and the important lessons to inform replication of the process in other communities.
