The Southern Trelawny Environmental Agency (STEA) launched its TUI Jamaica Forest Reforestation Project in Troy, Trelawny, on Wednesday, 27 August. The project, funded by the TUI Care Foundation, aims to plant 40,000 trees in the Cockpit Country Forest Reserve over the next 2 years.The main objective is to plant 32,000 native and 8,000 agroforestry trees.
The project, funded to the tune of £170,000, will be a partnership between STEA, the Forestry Department, and the South East Cockpit Country Local Forest Management Committee (SECCLFMC). The Forestry Department will provide the seedlings for the project, offer technical advice, and identify denuded areas in the forest reserve for reforestation. The South East Cockpit Country Local Forest Management Committee (SECCLFMC) will be responsible for preparing the land, digging the holes for the seedlings, and maintaining the seedlings. STEA will manage and monitor the project activities to be implemented under the work plan.
